My role as a commercial artist has been to provide the right image or animation for a clients' specific needs. This requires a certain amount of "problem solving" on my part in order to give them what they need in a timely and cost-effective manner.
I accomplish this by drawing from my 20 years experience as an artist with experience in traditional art techniques, and by being as up to date as possible with the latest computer tools. Currently these tools include Macintosh computers, scanners, as well as PhotoShop and various other programs, both 2D and 3D.
Since my experience predates desktop computers as a graphics tool, my art evolves from the drawing board to the computer. The computer helps the art become a form that is deliverable in today's market of animation, multimedia, and print. Even with 20 years experience with a computer, the drawing board is still my starting point.
My specific hands-on experience include illustration, both creative and technical, computer and television animation, computer game, multimedia and web graphics, comic book illustration and restoration, logo design, and 3D CAD.
If you enjoyed the few samples of my work on these pages, then I would welcome any inquiries to any upcoming projects you may have. At the very least, drop an e-mail message and just say hello.
Biography (sort of)
1964
I drew Fred Flintstone in my fifth grade class at age 10. My media of choice was a box of crayons. Click the button to see.
Jump ahead to 1984 (mostly because I don't want to bore you with a bunch of high school, art school, early career samples.)
I drew a satirical drawing of Lizzie Borden as portrayed by Elsie Borden (the cow and product personality). I was learning how to ink with a brush and I needed something to hold my attention. This seemed to work. Click the following button to take a look.

What follows are highlights from the past few years. Samples of the following can be found on this website.
1990
One of two artists that illustrated and animated "Riders of Rohan" computer game based on Lord of the Rings, distributed by Konami.
1991 - Present
Restoration artist of DC Comics' Archive Editions published since 1989 recreating the early stories of Batman, Superman and other DC Comics characters using self-created techniques, combining traditional and computer graphics. Completed over 2500 pages of art published from 1991 to the present. These books were nominated for Harvey and Eisner Awards during the years 1992-1994. Other projects include logo design and illustration of specific DC Comics characters for the Warner Studio Stores.
The above work led to an interview on Boston 7 News about work in computer aided comics.
Inspired "Keening", a graphics tool for computer illustration written into Migraph's graphics software, "Touch-Up." Click here for a screenshot.
1995
Created graphics for an interactive kiosk about Walden Pond and Henry David Thoreau, located at Walden Pond in Concord, MA. Produced by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Management, the creative team members included talent from Beacon Learning of Cambridge and The Rendon Group, Inc. of Boston. The kiosk won the 1997 Massachusetts Interactive Media Council Award for Best Non-profit Public Service Title.
1996
Created cartoon animation for a Corning Costar video presentation produced by Larry Miller Productions of Boston.
Sculpted DC Comic's characters in CAD, portraying them as action figures that have "come to life" for book cover illustrations.
Present
See 1991 above. In 1998 I also created an illustration of a two-story wigwam used by John Elliot as a church in the 17th century in South Natick, Massachusetts. This is the first Christian church in North America. This illustration appears in the book, Natick which is one of a series of historical books about American towns. Click here for a look at the illustration.
I drew my own tattoo if that counts. It's a cartoon, a cat, and a metaphor. Under the cat's head are my son's initials but they also make the letter "R", my initial. Click here if you want a look.
Other work includes projects from various clients represented around my website. I usually provide information about the company and links to their sites if they have one. Take your time looking around and email me with any questions.
